Shopify’s new customer accounts feature allows you to streamline how your customers manage their subscriptions. By integrating PayWhirl’s customer portal directly into the Shopify customer account page, you’ll create a seamless experience for subscription management, making it easier for your customers to skip shipments, update payment methods, or change their subscription plans—right from their account dashboard.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Access Your Shopify Admin

Log in to your Shopify admin and navigate to Settings > Checkout (or Settings > Customer Accounts, depending on your Shopify admin layout).

  2. Enable the New Customer Accounts
If you haven’t already, toggle on or select the new customer account experience. Shopify’s interface may prompt you to upgrade your thank-you and order status pages. This ensures customers are directed into the updated account environment after purchase.

3. Locate the PayWhirl Customer Portal Extension

Within the checkout and customer accounts configuration page, look for the Apps section.

  • Here you’ll see a list of apps that have extensions that are compatible with the new Shopify customer accounts.

  • Find the PayWhirl Customer Portal and select it.

4. Add the Customer Portal to Your Account Menu

You’ll be prompted to add the PayWhirl portal to your navigation menu so that customers can easily access their subscription details.

  • Click Add to menu to have it show in the main account navigation.

  • Customize the menu label (e.g., Manage Subscriptions).

  • Confirm the link is set to “PayWhirl Customer Portal.”

5. Save and Test the Integration

From the storefront, log in as a customer or use a test account to access the updated customer account area. You should now see the new navigation link to “Manage Subscriptions.” Clicking it will open the integrated PayWhirl customer portal, allowing you to view and manage subscription details effortlessly.

Additional Tips & Troubleshooting

  • If the portal does not appear, ensure you’ve completed all required steps in your PayWhirl setup, such as creating subscription plans and configuring your theme.

  • Ensure that you have enabled the new customer account experience in Shopify. The PayWhirl portal extension only appears with the upgraded customer accounts.
