You need to connect to a live payment gateway to start taking payments. The Stripe gateway is available on all PayWhirl plans. If you don't already have an account with Stripe, you can sign up in a few minutes. Stripe support payment processing in many different parts of the world.
To connect (or sign up) to Stripe, navigate to Payment Gateways in your PayWhirl account and click Setup Gateway next to the Stripe Logo.
You can log in and connect to your existing account if you already have an account with Stripe. If not, you can create a new Stripe account.
Once you have logged in, you will be prompted to connect your account. Confirm the permissions to connect Stripe to your PayWhirl account.
Configuring your Stripe settings and accepted payment methods
Once you've connected PayWhirl to Stripe, you can configure settings in both accounts to suit your needs.
Enable Enhanced Credit Card Form - Control which version of the credit card/payment method forms you'd like to use in your widgets and customer portal. If enhanced forms are enabled, you'll be able to configure your desired payment methods from your Stripe settings (more below).
Stripe payment method settings for the enhanced credit card form.
If you enable the enhanced credit card forms, you can configure which payment methods you'd like to accept in your Stripe account. Including credit/debit cards, bank transfers, Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA, iDEAL, and many others.
Payment Methods - This setting only applies when you're NOT using the enhanced credit card form. You can select if you'd like to accept cards, ACH or both for payment methods.
Instant Transfer On Dashboard - If enabled, you'll see Stripe's instant transfer options on the PayWhirl dashboard. This allows you to get paid instantly from Stripe.
Enable Payment Method Type Fees? - This setting only applies when you're NOT using the enhanced credit card form and allows you to add a percentage-based fee to different types of payment methods. i.e., you can charge customers 3% on card payments to cover your processing costs.
Connecting Widgets & Customer Portal to Stripe
IMPORTANT: When you are ready to go live, enable the gateway in the widget's advanced settings and the customer portal.
By default, the widgets and customer portal are connected to the Test Gateway. Any customers created in your account before connecting to Stripe are likely connected to the PayWhirl or Stripe test gateways. if you wish to change their gateway(s) to Stripe to process live payments, you'll need to delete and re-create customers' accounts. Unfortunately, payment methods cannot be transferred from a test gateway to a live stripe account.
Navigate to Widgets and Forms and click 'Edit' next to the widget you want to switch.
At the bottom of the page, click advanced settings to select Stripe as your gateway.
Next, enable Stripe in the Customer Portal. Click on Portal Settings under the Widgets and Forms menu.
That's it! You are now ready to take live payments with Stripe and PayWhirl.
Note: Stripe's transaction fees apply to all transactions processed through PayWhirl and are in addition to PayWhirl fees.
