PayWhirl’s Specific-Date Billing feature on Shopify lets you take full control of when subscriptions renew. Rather than billing customers based on the day they sign up, you can select exact calendar dates (like the 1st or 15th of the month) or specific weekdays (like every Monday).
Common Use-Cases for Billing on Specific Dates:
Billing weekly on different days (ie. Tuesday and Friday)
Billing on non-standard days of the month (ie. 5th & 25th)
Billing on random dates of the year or other non-unique cycles
Coordinating your billing schedule with new product launches, seasonal events, or specific dates.
This flexibility makes it easier to synchronize fulfillment, plan inventory, and stay consistent with customer communication. Whether you need to charge all subscribers on a certain day each month or align billing with a weekly shipping schedule, Specific-Date Billing helps ensure a predictable, organized experience for both you and your customers.
How to Use Specific Dates Billing:
Log into your Shopify admin and access the PayWhirl subscription app to get started. From there, head over to "Selling Plan Groups" and select "Create Selling Plan Group."
In the selling plan group settings, use the dropdown next to the Selling Plan title to change the type of your plan to "Specific dates."
Next, click the green "Add delivery anchors" button to launch the configuration popup window.
You can choose to bill on specific days of the week, month, or year.
Specific Weekdays - Orders will repeat on the selected day(s) each week.
Specific Month Days - Orders will repeat on the selected day(s) each month.
Specific Dates - Orders will repeat on the selected day(s) each year.
In this example, we'll select "Specific dates" as the anchor type. This will let you define the exact days or weekdays you wish to bill your customers, and these billing dates will be repeated annually.
Next, you'll be able to add specific anchor dates using the easy-to-use calendar interface—simply enter dates in MM-DD format (e.g., February 4 would be 02-04).
You can add as many dates as you need to match your business operations. Please note if you use the calendar to select your dates, you can ignore the year noted in the calendar as you are just selecting the month and day for each anchor.
You'll also have the option to specify when to fulfill orders for new subscribers immediately at the next anchor date or after a set cutoff window to avoid processing new subscriptions too close to your billing days. Remember, Shopify will always bill customers on checkout. If you have questions, our team is happy to explain your options via live chat.
Helpful Tips for Using Specific Dates Effectively:
Clearly communicate billing schedules upfront, helping customers know exactly when they'll be charged.
